The Local Area

Adventura is situated in Nerja, in the province of Málaga on the Costa del Sol, Spain. Nerja is built on a cliff above numerous sandy coves and lies at the foot of the Sierra de Almijara. The area is one of outstanding beauty with unspoilt natural parks.
Nerja boasts 16 kilometres of beaches with powdery sand and sparkling clear water. The Balcón de Europa, situated on a rocky promontory, was formerly a fortress designed to keep out British pirates and privateers. Today it is the focal point of the town, affording magnificent views up and down the coast.

Flanked by a dramatic mountain range, Sierra Almijara, to the east, the town has, despite the recent increase in tourism, managed to remain virtually unchanged with narrow, winding streets and whitewashed houses with wrought iron terraces overflowing with geraniums, and the occasional canary singing.

There are plenty of restaurants and cafes here to choose from, and the visitor can hire a horse-drawn carriage to explore the most romantic corner of the town.

Nerja's most spectacular attraction is undoubtedly its fascinating caves, located just three kilometres from the centre of town. They include archaeological treasures such as paintings over 20,000 years old and other pre-historic remains. The town's monuments include the 17th century Church of El Salvador, in a style that is a charming mixture of baroque and Moorish, or mudéjar, and the beautiful Gardens of Capistrano Playa, which descend to Burriana Beach.
